The self-titled album Virga is the first collection of ambient-electronic music from Northern California based producer and musician Brindl. Virga is dreamtronica: nature inspired electronica merging organic and electronic sounds, lush piano, hypnotic beats, nature recordings, and dreamy synths, similar to artists such as Four Tet, Aphex Twin, Nils Frahm, Harold Budd, Brian Eno.

An evolution from Brindl’s previous three albums in the folk/acoustic genre, Virga was born after a period of music industry burnout and spiritual and emotional introspection leading to formal and self taught education and her creative exploration into electronic music production and the world of ambient and electronic music.

“These songs are a really a record of my 3 year quest of learning creative and technical tools to more deeply express myself as a musician,” Brindl says. During the pandemic Brindl wrote songs almost daily and completed the bulk of a degree in audio engineering and many music production classes. Interested in the contrast and harmony of electronic sounds and natural organic sounds, Brindl uses many of her own nature field recordings in this collection as well as more electronic synthesizer based sounds and a natural, flowing piano lead bridging all these elements together for calming and lush sonic experience.

Her musical journey during this period of writing also was inspired by the growing number of female producers in music and the more gender inclusive electronic music community, but also a deeper awareness of the lack of representation of women in producer or engineering roles in the music industry. “I felt it was important that I challenged myself to step more fully into the role of producer and engineer to see what my sound truly is without having to translate or filter through anyone else.”
